We’re ready – Olopade
Just five days to the final of 2006 Coca Cola FA Cup final between Bendel Insurance of Benin and Dolphins of Port Harcourt, which would be played on Sunday at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Ogun State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Bukola Olopade, has expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness of his wards, insisting that this year’s FA Cup glamour would surpass all others that had taken place.
Speaking on the level of preparedness in terms of security and logistics as concerns the most glamorous football fiesta even known in the country, Olopade said everything has been put in place to make the game hitch-free.
"Right from my childhood days as a football follower and somebody, who played a little of the game, the FA Cup final in Abeokuta, by the Grace of God, would be one of the best organised competition.
"We are ready in terms of preparedness. Everything has been put in place to ensure that spectators who come from far and near to watch the match will have worth for their money. "All necessary arrangements have been made in terms of security. I can assure you that a high level of security network has been put in place.
"No doubt, the standard of this year’s FA Cup matches have been so high. I had the opportunity of watching some of the matches played at Abeokuta centre and what I saw was very encouraging. Nigerian footbll has come to stay. What we need is good organisation and other things will follow. "The two finalists involved, Insurance of Benin and Dolphins FC of Port Harcourt are Premiership clubs that can hold their own any day.
"I am very optimistic that the match would live up to its billing. The match would be aired in Supersport and there is every hope that the glamour of the Coca Cola FA Cup final would be rekindled on Sunday at the MKO Abiola Stadium," Olopade said.
